వివరణ
English: Investiture ceremony by King George V during the Delhi Durbar, 1911. The ceremony took place in the reception pavilions of the King-Emperor's Camp on the Bawari Plain, Delhi, evening of 14 December 1911. Ganga Singh, the Maharaja of Bikaner, is shown receiving the insignia of the Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Star of India (GCSI). Behind the king is Queen Mary. Seated to his right are Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India; the Marquess of Crewe, Minister in attendance, in the dark blue robes of the Order of the Garter; and the Duke of Teck in the crimson mantle of the Order of the Bath. (Source: The Historical Record of the Imperial Visit to India, 1911. London: John Murray (1914), pp. vii, 122, 220.) The painting was commissioned by the Maharaja in October 1912 and completed in England c1913 from sketches and photographs taken in India. (Source: "Errata." History of Photography, Vol. 13, Issue 2, April-June 1989, p. 189.)

The artist and illustrator George Percy Jacomb-Hood trained at the Slade School of Art and in Paris before becoming artist-correspondent of The Graphic. It was in this role that he accompanied several royal visits to India at the start of the century. In October 1911 he travelled as part of the Royal suite to India on RMS Medina with King George V and Queen Mary; the high-point of the tour was the Delhi Durbar.
