ఈరోడ్ జిల్లా ఒకప్పుడు " పెరియార్ జిల్లా " గా ఉండేది. ఈ జిల్లా భారతీయ రాష్ట్రాలలో ఒకటైన తమిళనాడు రాష్ట్రం కొంగునాడు పడమటి భూభాగంగా ఉండేది. జిల్లా ప్రధానకేంద్రం ఈరోడ్. జిల్లా " ఈరోడ్ విభాగం " మరియు " గోబిచెట్టి పాలెం విభాగం " అని రెండు విభాగాలుగా పనిచేస్తుంది.ఒకప్పుడు పెరియార్ జిల్లా [[కోయంబత్తూరు]] జిల్లాలో భాగంగా ఉంటూ వచ్చింది. సెప్టెంబర్ 17న పెరియార్ జిల్లాగా అవతరుంచింది. [[1986]]న పెరియార్ జిల్లా పేరు ఈరోడ్ జిల్లాగా మార్చబడింది. గణితమేధావి రామానుజం మరియు పెరియార్ అని పిలువబడిన ఇ.వి రామస్వామి ఈరోడ్ జిల్లాకు చెందినవారే.
== భౌగోళికం ==
The district is bounded by [[Chamarajanagar district]] of [[Karnataka]] to the north, and by [[Kaveri River]] to the east. Across the river lies [[Salem District|Salem]], [[Namakkal District|Namakkal]] and [[Karur District|Karur]] districts. [[Tirupur District]] lies immediately to the south, and [[Coimbatore District|Coimbatore]] and the [[Nilgiris district]] lie to the west. Erode District is [[landlocked]] and is situated at between 10 36” and 11 58” north latitude and between 76 49” and 77 58” east longitude. [[Western Ghats]] traverses across the district giving rise to small hill locks.
