[[1828]] లో బాలాసోర్ భూభాగం బెంగాల్ ప్రెసిడెంసీలో భాగంగా ఉన్న సమయంలో బాలాసోర్ ప్రాంతానికి జిల్లా అంతస్థు ఇవ్వబడింది.[[ బీహార్]] రాష్ట్రం ఏర్పాటు చేసిన తరువాత బాలాసోర్ ప్రాంతం బెంగాల్ నుండి బిహార్‌లో చేర్చబడింది. [[1936]] ఏప్రెల్ 1 [[ఒరిస్సా]] ప్రత్యేక రాష్ట్రంగా ఏర్పాటు చేసిన తరువాత బాలాసోర్ ఒరిస్సా రాష్ట్రంలో భాగంగా మారింది. [[1921]] లో [[మహాత్మాగాంధీ]] నాయకత్వంలో స్వాతంత్ర ఉద్యమం తీవ్రరూపం దాల్చింది. ఉప్పుసత్యాగ్రం మరియు శ్రీజంగ్ సత్యాగ్రం (ఆదాయం పన్ను ఎగవేత) స్వాతంత్ర పోరాటంలో ప్రధానపాత్ర వహించాయి. నీలగిరి రాజాస్థానానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా ప్రజా ఆందోళన మొదలైంది. [[1948]] జనవరిలో నీలగిరి రాజాస్థానం ఒరిస్సా రాష్ట్రంతో విలీనం అయింది. తరువాత నీలగిరి రాజాస్థానం [[బాలాసోర్]] జిల్లాగా మారింది. In the early 17th century, Balasore was an important trading destination in the eastern coastline of India. Inhabitants of the place sailed to distant ports in [[Southeast Asia|south-east Asia]], especially to [[Laccadive|Lacadive]] and [[Maldives|Maldives islands]] for trade and culture. Copper coins excavated from Bhograi and statues of [[Gautama Buddha|Lord Buddha]] unearthed from places like Avana, Kupari, Basta & Ajodhya signify the existence of [[Buddhism]] in Balasore which was popular during the rule of Bhoumakar dynasty. The statues of [[Mahavira|Lord Mahavira]] found at Jaleswar, Balasore & Avana date back to the 10-11th century and show the existence of [[Jainism]] in the region.
