పియర్ డి ఫెర్మా (Pierre de Fermat, 20 Aug 1601- ) ఫ్రాంసు లో పుట్టేడు. తండ్రి, డామినీక్ ఫెర్మా, సామంతుడైన (తోలు) వ్యాపారస్తుడు కావడం వల్ల ఇతనికి మంచి పాఠశాలలో విద్యాభ్యాసం చేసే అవకాశం లభించింది. కాని విద్యార్థి దశలో ఫెర్మా ప్రతిభావంతుడైన గణిత శాస్త్ర వేత్తగా పరిణతి చెందుతాడనుకోడానికి దాఖలాలు కనిపించలేదు.
