* The black-winged kite (Elanus caeruleus) is a small diurnal bird of prey in the family Accipitridae best known for its habit of hovering over open grasslands in the manner of the much smaller kestrels. This Eurasian and African species was sometimes combined with the Australian
* black-shouldered kite (Elanus axillaris) of Australia
* white-tailed kite (Elanus leucurus) of North and South America
together form a superspecies.
* Differences between kite, hawk, eagle, falcon, vulture
* Hawks and falcons differ in that falcons are smaller, slimmer, and faster flying. Eagles are much larger and more powerful than hawks, and many prefer fish to prey like mice and birds.
Eagle: A large bird with long, broad wing span and massive feet. They are seen soaring high in the sky, flapping low over treetops with slow wingbeats, or perched in trees or on the ground. They scavenge many meals by harassing other birds or by eating carrion or garbage. They eat mainly fish, but also hunt mammals, gulls, and waterfowl.

Kite: Large to medium sized bird with long wings but relatively weak legs. These birds are excellent aerialists, spending much of their time aloft and sailing in the wind or flying with buoyant wingbeats. They will take live vertebrate prey, but mostly feed on insects, small mammals or even carrion. There is a slight fork in their tail.

Falcon: A medium-size bird of prey with long pointy wings and tends to be a very swift flier. Falcons catch smaller birds in the air with swift, spectacular dives, called stoops. In cities they are masterful at catching pigeons. Elsewhere they feed especially on shorebirds and ducks. They often sit on high perches, waiting for the right opportunity to make their aerial assault.

Hawk : A medium sized bird found mainly in woodlands hunting by sudden dashes from a concealed perch. It usually has a long tail for tight steering. Their flight is an accipiter like pattern of intermittent flaps and glides.
