తరువాతి రోజులలో రాజులు సైన్యాదిపతులు ఈ పదాన్ని తమ సొంత పేరు లాగా వాడుకున్నారు. ఉదాహరణకు రోమన్ జనరల్ పాంపే. ఇంకా ఇతరులు వారు చేసిన గొప్ప పనులకు గాను ఈ బిరుదును పొందారు. ఉదారణకు భారత చక్రవర్తి అశోకుడు, కార్తేజియన్ హాన్నో. ఈ పేరు బాగా ప్రాచుర్యంలోకి వచ్చిన తరువాత, దీనిని ఎటువంటి రాజకీయజీవితము లేని వారికి కూడా వారికి గౌరవసూచకముగా ఉపయోగించసాగారు. ఉదాహరణకు ఆల్బర్ట్ ది గ్రేట్.
