==విద్యాభ్యాసం, ఉద్యోగం==
ఈమె ప్రాథమిక విద్యాభ్యాసం స్వగ్రామంలో గడిచింది. 1963లో కేరళ విశ్వవిద్యాలయం నుండి జంతుశాస్త్రంలో బి.ఎస్.సి., పట్టాను పొందింది. సంగీతం పట్ల అభిరుచితో ఈమె తిరువనంతపురంలోని సంగీత అకాడమీలో చదివి "గానప్రవీణ" పట్టాను సంపాదించింది. తరువాత ఈమె తిరువనంతపురం మహారాజా మహిళా కళాశాలలో సంగీత విభాగంలో అధ్యాపకురాలిగా చేరింది. ఉద్యోగం చేసుకుంటూనే ఈమె సంగీతంలో బి.ఎ.డిగ్రీని పార్ట్‌టైమ్‌లో చదివింది. బి.ఎ.లో విజయం సాధించిన తర్వాత ఈమె అదే కళాశాలలో అదే విభాగంలో సెకెండ్ గ్రేడ్ ప్రొఫెసర్‌గా పదోన్నతిని పొందింది. ఈ హోదాలో ఈమె 6 సంవత్సరాలు విద్యార్థులకు సంగీతం నేర్పింది. <ref name="Subbulakshmi Award" /> తరువాత మొదటి గ్రేడు ప్రొఫెసర్‌గా అదే సంగీత విభాగంలో పనిచేసింది. కేరళ విశ్వవిద్యాలయంలో సంగీతశాఖలో మొట్టమొదటి ప్రొఫెసర్‌గా పనిచేసిన ఘనత ఈమెకే దక్కింది. ఈమె అదే శాఖలో సంగీతంలో స్నాతకోత్తర పట్టాను, "కథాకళి సంగీతం పుట్టుక పరిణామక్రమం" అనే అంశంపై పరిశోధించి పి.హెచ్.డి.పట్టాను సాధించింది.<ref name="Subbulakshmi Award" /> ఈమె లెక్చరర్‌నుండి ప్రొఫెసర్ దాకా 37 సంవత్సరాలు బాధ్యతలను నిర్వర్తించి 2003లో కేరళ విశ్వవిద్యాలయపు సంగీత విభాగానికి అధిపతిగా పదవీ విరమణ చేసింది. ఈమె సంగీత భారతి అనే సంస్థకు వ్యవస్థాపక అధ్యక్షురాలిగా సేవలందిస్తున్నది.<ref>{{cite web |title=A life in music |url=https://www.thehindu.com/features/friday-review/music/a-life-in-music/article3380329.ece |website=www.thehindu.com |publisher=The Hindu |accessdate=13 February 2020}}</ref> ప్రస్తుతం ఈమె పంకజ కస్తూరి ఆయుర్వేద కళాశాల మ్యూజిక్ థెరపీ విభాగంలో సీనియర్ ఫ్యాకల్టీగా బాధ్యతలను నిర్వర్తిస్తున్నది.<ref>{{cite web |title=Dr. Omanakutty meets students of Asian studies and South Indian cultures and languages courses. |url=https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/southasia/events/event.php?id=6059 |website=liberalarts.utexas.edu |accessdate=13 February 2020}}</ref> She is also the founder chairman and secretary of Thiruvananthapuram based Sangeeta Bharati. She had her formal education from a reputed school in her village. Later in 1963, she completed her graduation in Zoology from a degree college affiliated to Kerala University. Due to her interest in music, she joined in the Thiruvananthapuram-based Music Academy to pursue a Gana Praveena course in Music. On successfully completing the course in Music from that organization, Omanakutty Amma started working as a Lecturer in the Music Department of Government Maharaja's College for Women in Thiruvananthapuram. While working in the Music department of the college, she completed her part-time degree course in Music. After successfully completing the degree course in Music, Omanakutty became a Second Grade Professor in the same department of the college. In this designation, she continued to teach students of the department with dedication for a period of 6 years.<ref name="Subbulakshmi Award" />
In recognition of the quality services provided by her in academics and music field, Omanakutty was promoted to the designation of the First Grade Professor of Music in the same department. During this period, many reputed musicians of today joined the course and successfully completed their formal training in Music from the department. Subsequently, she did her post graduation and doctoral programs in the field of Music from the same department successfully. For her doctoral degree program, the subject of her research was the origin and the evolution of [[Kathakali]] music in Kerala.<ref name="Subbulakshmi Award" />
