2013 లో [[ఉత్తరాఖండ్]]లో పలు రోజులపాటు కురిసిన విపరీతమైన [[వర్షాలు|వర్షాల]] కారణంగా [[వరదలు]], కొండచరియలు విరిగి పడటం వల్ల జనజీవనం అస్థవ్యస్తమయ్యింది. 2004 లో [[భారత దేశము|భారతదేశం]] ఎదుర్కొన్న [[2004 సునామీ|సునామీ]] తరువాత ఇదే అత్యంత ఘోరమైన విపత్తు. రాష్ట్రంలో మామూలుగా వచ్చే వరదల కన్నా ఎక్కువగా రావడానికి ఒక కారణం నదుల మీద నిర్మించే ఆనకట్టల తాలూకు వ్యర్ధాలు. ఈ వ్యర్థ పదార్థాలు నదుల సహజ ప్రవాహానికి అడ్డం పడి కట్టలు తెంచుకోవడానికి కారణం అయ్యాయి. 2013 జూన్ 16 ఈ వరదల్లో అతి ముఖ్యమైన రోజు. ఈ వరదలు [[హిమాచల్ ప్రదేశ్]], [[ఢిల్లీ]], [[హర్యానా]], [[ఉత్తర ప్రదేశ్]] రాష్ట్రాలనూ, [[నేపాల్]] పశ్చిమ భాగాన్ని, [[టిబెట్]] పశ్చిమ భాగాన్ని తాకినా కూడా 95% బాధితులు [[ఉత్తరాఖండ్]]కు చెందిన వారే. {{As of|2013|07|16}}, ఉత్తరాఖండ్ ప్రభుత్వ నివేదికల ప్రకారం 5,700 మందికి పైగా ప్రజలు మరణించినట్లుగా భావిస్తున్నారు.<ref name="AP">{{cite news | url=http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57593939/india-raises-flood-death-toll-reaches-5700-as-all-missing-persons-now-presumed-dead/
