[[తెలుగు భాష]]లో బొట్టు పదానికి వివిధ ప్రయోగాలున్నాయి.<ref>[http://dsal.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/romadict.pl?page=906&table=brown&display=utf8 బ్రౌన్ నిఘంటువు ప్రకారం బొట్టు పద ప్రయోగాలు.]</ref> బొట్టు అనగా బిందువు (A drop) లేదా శరీరం మీద పెట్టుకొనే చుక్క. నిలువుబొట్టు వైష్ణవానికి చిహ్నం అయితే అడ్డబొట్టు శైవానికి చిహ్మంగా భావిస్తారు. తాళిబొట్టు వివాహానికి గుర్తుగా స్త్రీలు మెడలో ధరించేది. బొట్టుకట్టు అనగా [[వివాహం]]లో తాళిబొట్టు కట్టడము లేదా వివాహం చేసుకోవడం. బొట్టుదారము అనగా మంగళసూత్రము.
బొట్టు [ boṭṭu ] boṭṭu. [Tel.] n. A drop. A sectarian mark on the forehead, white, yellow, black or scarlet, long or round. A gold spangle or patch in general. "తిరుపతి కొప్పులమదముగదీర్చిన బూడిదెబొట్టు, మంచిదేర్పరచినమించునట్టి రుదురాక్కల పేరులు." S. iii. 99. ఎక్కడ ఉన్నా సరిగా బొట్టు పెట్టినట్టు చిక్కుచున్నది wherever it is, he finds it in a moment. బొట్టుదారము boṭṭu-dāramu. n.
