ఒక విశిష్టమైన విధిని నిర్వహించడానికి ఏర్పడిన కొన్ని ప్రత్యేకమైన [[కణాలు]] (Cells) ఒకే విధమైన పిండస్థాయి పుట్టుక, ఇకే విధమైన నిర్మాణాని కలిగి ఒక సముదాయంగా ఏర్పడతాయి. ఇలాంటి సముదాయాన్ని లేదా పొరను ''''కణజాలము'''' (Tissue) అంటారు. ఒకే క్రియా ప్రమాణంగా ఇలాంటి వేరువేరు కణజాలాలు కలిసి పనిచేస్తుంటే ఆ ప్రమాణాన్ని 'ఆశయం' లేదా '[[అవయవం]]' (Organ) అంటారు. కొన్ని అవయవాలు కలిసి ఒక [[వ్యవస్థ]]ను ఏర్పరుస్తాయి.
