ప్రెసిడెన్సీ కాలేజీ నుండి పట్టభద్రురాలైన తర్వాత ఆమె [[చంద్రశేఖర వేంకట రామన్|సి.వి.రామన్]] వద్ద పనిచేశారు. ఇచట [[రుబీ]] మరియు [[వజ్రం]] యొక్క దృశా ధర్మాలను పరిశోధించారు<ref name=lilavati/> ఆమె ఐదు పరిశోధనా పత్రాలను రచించింది. కానీ ఈమె భౌతిక శాస్త్రంలో మాస్టర్స్ డిగ్రీ చేయని కారణంగా పి.హె.డి నిపొందలేకపొయింది.అపుడు ఆమె భౌతిక శాస్త్రం అధ్యయనం చేయుటకు [[బ్రిటన్]] వెళ్ళింది. కానీ దానిని ఆపివేసి లండన్ నందుగల "ఇంపీరియల్ కాలేజి" నందు వాతావరణ రంగానికి చెందిన పరికరాలపై పరిశోధనలు కొనసాహించారు<ref name=insa/>. 1948 లో ఆమె భారతదేశానికి వచ్చిన తర్వాత పూనే నందు గల వాతావరణ శాఖలో చేరారు. ఆమె వాతావరణ రంగంలో వివిధ పరికరాలపై విశేషమైన పరిశోధనలు చేసి పత్రాలను ప్రచురించారు. ఆమె 1976 లో భాతర మెటెరోలోజికల్ డిపార్ట్‌మెంట్ నుండి డిప్యూటీ డైరక్టరు జనరల్ గా పదవీవిరమణ పొందారు. ఆమె 1980 లో ''The Handbook for Solar Radiation data for India'' మరియు 1981 లో ''Solar Radiation over India'' అనే పుస్తకాలను రాశారు<ref name=lilavati/>. ఈమె కె.ఆర్.రామనాథన్ మెడల్ ను 1987 లో గెలుపొందారు<ref name=insa/>.
After graduating from the Presidency college, she worked under Prof. [[C V Raman]], researching the optical properties of [[ruby]] and [[diamond]].<ref name=lilavati/> She authored five research papers, but she was not granted a PhD because she did not have a master's degree in physics. Then she moved to Britain to study pursue physics, but she ended up studying meteorological instruments at [[Imperial College London]].<ref name=insa/> After returning to India in 1948, she joined the Meteorological department in [[Pune]]. She published numerous research papers on meteorological instrumentation. She retired as the deputy director general of the Indian Meteorological department in 1976. She authored two books, ''The Handbook for Solar Radiation data for India'' in 1980 and ''Solar Radiation over India'' in 1981.<ref name=lilavati/> She won the K.R. Ramanathan Medal in 1987.<ref name=insa/>
