Dear fellow Wikimedians,
I will start by introducing myself to the community. I am Ravi Vyzasatya based in Maryland,USA. I have contributed to Telugu Wikipedia since 2005 and to a lesser extent in Telugu Wiktionary and Wikisource. I did serve as admin in all these projects. Although my primary interest is in writing well researched articles in the area of South Indian history, I do help the community by running bot scripts and taking care of miscellaneous administrative tasks.
Telugu wikipedia will be 10 years old in another week from now. On this auspicious occasion Telugu Wikimedia Community is organizing celebrations under the leadership of an organizing committee headed by Vishwanath B.K, Pranayraj as Secretary, Kasyap as Treasurer along with Rahimanuddin, WMIN SIG lead Telugu, Vishnuvardhan, CIS-A2K Program Director as members. We have also constituted an awards committee with myself as President, Arjuna Rao Chavala, WMIN Co-founder and its first President as Secretary and A. Rajasekhar, T. Sujatha, NWR 2011 award winners from Telugu Wikis and A. Radhakrishna, Former WMIN SIG lead for Bangalore as members. The award is named after Komarraju Lakshmana Rao[1], pioneer Telugu encyclopedian who undertook the first modern encyclopedic effort in Telugu, perhaps the first among Indian languages (c.1912-13). It is also quite fitting tribute to Lakshmana Rao to honor his memory in the centennial anniversary of such pioneering effort. The award carries a citation and cash prize of Rs 10,000/. Organizing committee and awards committee members are ineligible for the awards to avoid any perceived or real conflict of interest.
We are inviting nominations [2] for awards on Telugu Wikimedia projects. Nominations are due by 9th Dec 2013 2359 (UTC). Members can self -nominate or be nominated by others, in consideration for these awards. Nomination process has been developed by Arjuna building upon the NWR 2011 nomination process[3] pioneered by another WMIN Cofounder and the then EC Member Arunram . We express our sincere appreciation for the same. We think that this initiative with nominal cash prize by Telugu community may be the first of its kind and will complement the existing recognition mechanisms and help encourage budding wikimedians in their initial years of contribution. We invite all Indian wikimedians to participate in the award nomination process as you may be familiar with our Telugu Wikimedians through their efforts in English, Kannada, Tamil language Wikimedia projects. For the benefit of wider Wikimedia community, we have provided for relevant remarks on the nomination pages in English and also invite nominations or support for the existing nominations in English, if you choose to do so.
We solicit your wishes on this happy occasion and will be sharing the updates about the celebrations, awards and other related Telugu wiki activities as things roll out.

వచ్చేవారం తెలుగు వికీపీడియా పదో పుట్టినరోజు. ఈ శుభ సందర్భంగా తెలుగు వికీజనులందరూ కలిసి పండగ చేసుకోవాలని నిశ్చయించడమైనది. ఈ ఉత్సవాలను నిర్వహించడానికి తెవికీ నిర్వాహకుడు, వికీపీడియా అభివృద్ధి ఎంతగానో తోడ్పడిన బి.కె.విశ్వనాధ్ గారు అధ్యక్షుడిగా ఒక ఉత్సవ నిర్వహణా సంఘం ఏర్పడింది. ఈ సంఘానికి ప్రణయ్‌రాజ్ గారు కార్యదర్శిగానూ, పలివెల కశ్యప్ గారు కోశాధికారి గానూ ఏకగ్రీవంగా ఎన్నుకోబడ్డారు. వీరితో పాటు తెలుగు వికీమీడియా భారత పర్వం యొక్క నాయకుడు రహ్మానుద్దీన్ గారు, సి.ఐ.ఎస్-ఏ2కె కార్యనిర్దేశకుడు విష్ణువర్ధన్ గారు కూడా ఈ సంఘంలో సభ్యులు. అలాగే పదేళ్ళ తెలుగు మీడియావికీ ప్రస్థానంలో విశేషకృషి చేసిన వారిని గుర్తించి, సత్కరించేందుకు ఒక పురస్కార ఎంపిక సంఘం కూడా ఏర్పడింది. దానికి నేను అధ్యక్షత వహిస్తుండగా, వికీమీడియా భారత చాప్టర్ సహ-స్థాపకుడు, వ్యవస్థాపక అధ్యక్షుడు అర్జునరావు గారు కార్యదర్శి ఎన్నికయ్యారు. ఈ పురస్కార సంఘంలో డా. రాజశేఖర్ గారు, టి.సుజాత గారు మరియు పూర్వ వికీమీడియా భారత చాప్టరు యొక్క బెంగుళూరు ప్రతినిధి అయిన ఏ.రాధాకృష్ణ గారు కూడా ఈ ఎంపిక సంఘంలో సభ్యులు.
ఈ పురస్కారానికి తెలుగు భాషలో తొట్టతొలి (బహుశా భారతీయ భాషలలోనే తొట్టతొలి) ఆధునిక విజ్ఞానసర్వస్వపు కృషికి శ్రీకారం చుట్టిన శ్రీ కొమర్రాజు లక్ష్మణరావు గారి పేరు మీదగా కొమర్రాజు లక్ష్మణరావు వికీమీడియా పురస్కారం అనే పేరు ఎంపిక చేయబడింది. 1912-1913 ప్రాంతంలో విజ్ఞానసర్వస్వపు కృషిని ప్రారంభించిన కొమర్రాజు లక్ష్మణరావు, ఆ కృషిని ప్రారంభించి వంద సంవత్సరాలు నిండటం కూడా ఒక విశేషం. ఇలా తెలుగు వికీకి పదేళ్ళు నిండటం, లక్ష్మణరావు గారి విజ్ఞానసర్వస్వానికి వందేళ్ళు ఒకేసారి నిండటం గొప్ప విశేషం. ఈ విధంగా తెలుగు మీడియావికీ ప్రాజెక్టులలో కృషిచేసిన వారిని తలచుకొని వారి సేవలను గుర్తిస్తున్న తరుణంలో కొమర్రాజు లక్ష్మణరావు గారి కృషిని కూడా స్మరించుకోవటానికి చక్కని అవకాశం. ఈ పురస్కారంలో భాగంగా ఒక్కొక్క గ్రహీతకు ఒక ప్రశంసా పత్రంతో పాటు, పదివేల నగదు బహుమతి కూడా ఇవ్వబడుతుంది. పరస్పర వైరుధ్యాసక్తులకు తావు లేకుండా, ఉత్సవాల నిర్వహణా సంఘం సభ్యులు మరియు పురస్కారాల ఎంపిక సంఘం సభ్యులు ఈ పురస్కారాలు అందుకోవటానికి అనర్హులుగా ప్రకటించడమైనది.
ఈ పురస్కారాలకు అర్హులైన సభ్యులకై ప్రతిపాదనలు[2] ఆహ్వనిస్తున్నాము. ప్రతిపాదనలు దాఖలు చేయవలసిన గడువు డిసెంబరు 9, 2013 సమయం 23:59 (గ్రీ.ప్రా.కా). వికీమీడియా కృషి చేసిన సభ్యులెవరైనా ఈ పురస్కారాలకు తమ పేరును స్వయంగా ప్రతిపాదించుకోవచ్చు లేదా ఇతరులచే ప్రతిపాదించబడవచ్చు. ఎంపిక సంఘం అన్ని ప్రతిపాదనలను పరిశీలించి పురస్కార గ్రహీతలను ఎంపిక చేస్తుంది. ప్రతిపాదనా పద్ధతిని 2011 NWRలో అప్పటి కార్యనిర్వహణా సంఘం అధ్యక్షుడు అరుణ్‌రాం రూపొందించి, అమలుపరచిన ప్రతిపాదనా పద్ధతిని[3] మరింత మెరుగుపరచి అర్జున గారు రూపొందించారు. నగదు బహుమతి ప్రోత్సాహకంగా ఇవ్వటం భారతీయ వికీల్లో ఇదే ప్రథమం. ఇప్పటికి వరకు ఉన్న ప్రోత్సాహకాలతో ఇది మరింత మంది క్రియాశీలక సభ్యులను, కొత్తసభ్యులను ఉత్సాహపరుస్తుందని ఆశిస్తున్నాం. సభాముఖంగా మీరు ఈ పురస్కారాలకు అర్హులనీ భావించిన సభ్యులను పురస్కారానికై ప్రతిపాదించాలని కోరుతున్నాను.
అంతేకాక ఈ శుభసమయంలో మా ప్రయత్నం జయప్రదం అయ్యేందుకు మీరు ఆశీస్సులు కోరుతున్నాము. ముందు ముందు తెవికీలో జరుగుతున్న విశేషాలను ఎప్పటికప్పుడు పంచుకొనే ప్రయత్నం చేస్తాము.

Dear fellow Wikimedians,
Thank you all for your encouragement of Telugu Wikipedia community's initiative to recognize the contributors by a special award called Komarraju Lakshmana Rao Wikimedia Puraskaram[1], named after first modern encyclopedist in Telugu, perhaps the first among Indian languages (c.1912-13).
We got 28 nominated proposals for the awards[2] out of which 18 were complete, based on the acceptance criteria outlined in the initial announcement. Selection council analyzed all proposals based on quantitative metrics like wiki statistics and qualitative assessment of each nominee's contribution and it's impact on Wiki 's growth and development. We would like to thank all the people who participated in the nomination and proposal development process and also those who helped to improve the process by their feedback during its roll out. As this is the debut year for the awards, Selection council decided to award 10 recipients recognizing their contributions during the last decade of Telugu Wikipedia. In the order of final assessment score, the awardees are Chaduvari, M Pradeep, Chava kiran, Veeven, Palagiri, Ravichandra, Ahmed Nisar, Veera.sj, JVRK PRASAD and Bhaskaranaidu. They will be presented with cash prize and certificate during the Telugu Wiki Ten Celebrations . You can see their pictures, citation remarks in Telugu and English [3]. The background material[4] and scoring sheet[5] are also available, if you are interested.
To recognize members who contributed significantly to Telugu wikimedia projects but could not/ did not give their consent for the award nomination and/or did not get selected for the award, Selection council decided to award Jury appreciation certificates. These will be given to 30 members selected by the council[6]. An electronic certificate will be presented in their user talk pages shortly
It's been an arduous effort and the selection council members have put in nearly 1000 hours of effort as a group in the past couple of months since award conception. Can't thank enough the selection council members Arjuna Rao Chavala, A. Rajasekhar, T. Sujatha and A. Radhakrishna. Special thanks to Arjuna Rao Chavala, Selection council secretary for taking the major responsibility for this initiative. We also thank Tewiki 10 Celebrations committee[7] for ensuring necessary funds to support this award.
As with any first time endeavor, I am sure there is room for improvements in this process. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions for future attempts.
