[[ఒరిస్సా]] లోని 30 జిల్లాలలో బాలాసోర్ జిల్లా ఒకటి. దీనిని బలేశ్వర్ జిల్లా అని కూడా అంటారు. ఒరిస్సా రాష్ట్ర తీరప్రాంత జిల్లాలలో ఇది ఒకటి. ఈ జిల్లా రాష్ట్ర ఉత్తర సరిహద్దులో ఉంది. ఇది పురాతన కళింగ రాజ్యంలో భాగంగా ఉంటూ వచ్చింది. తరువాత రాజా ముకుందదేవ్ మరణించే వరకు ([[1828]]) ఈ ప్రాంతం తోషల్ లేక ఉత్కళ రాజ్యంలో భాగంగా ఉంటూ వచ్చింది.
ఇది బెంగాల్ ప్రెసిడెంసీలో భాగంగా ఉంటూ వచ్చింది. [[2011]] గణాంకాలను అనుసరించి జిల్లా వైశాల్యం 3634 చ.కి.మీ. జనసంఖ్య 23,17,419. జిల్లా ఉత్తర సరిహద్దులో [[పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్]] రాష్ట్రంలోని [[మదీనాపూర్]] జిల్లా, తూర్పు సరిహద్దులో [[బంగాళాఖాతం]], దక్షిణ సరిహద్దులో [[భద్రక్]] జిల్లా మరియు పశ్చిమ సరిహద్దులో [[మయూర్భంజ్]] మరియు [[కెందుజహర్]] జిల్లాలు ఉన్నాయి. జిల్లా 20.48 నుండి 21.59 డిగ్రీల ఉత్తర అక్షాంశం మరియు 86.16 to 87.29 డిగ్రీల తూర్పు రేఖాంశంలో ఉంది.
It is now a launch station for [[sounding rocket]]s on the east coast of [[India]] in Odisha state at 21°18' N and 86°36' E. Balasore has been in use since 1989, but unlike [[Sriharikota]], it is not used for launching [[satellite]]s. The rocket launching site at Balasore is situated in a place called [[Chandipur, Odisha|Chandipur]] located on the [[Bay of Bengal]]. The Interim Test Range in Chandipur is responsible for carrying out tests for various missiles such as Agni, [[Prithvi missile|Prithvi]], Trishul etc.
