ఆయన తన సినీ ప్రస్థానాన్ని 1950 లలో సహాయ దర్శకునిగా తన కజిన్ అయిన టి.ప్రకాశరావు మరియు కోటయ్య ప్రత్యాగాత్మ వారి వద్ద ప్రారంభించారు. తెలుగులో 1966 లో నవరాత్రి చిత్రంతో దర్శకునిగా ప్రారంభించారు.
