'''గొల్లభామ''' అనగా ఒక [[కీటకం]]. ఈ కీటకాలు 2400 పైన రకాలు మరియు 430 జాతులు, 15 కుటుంబాలతో ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా సమశీతోష్ణ మరియు ఉష్ణమండల ప్రాంతాలలో ఉన్నాయి. ఎక్కువ రకాలు మాంటీడై (Mantidae) కుటుంబంలో ఉన్నాయి. దీనిని ఆంగ్లంలో ప్రెయింగ్ "మాంటిస్" అంటారు, ఎందుకంటే ఇవి తన కాళ్ళు ప్రార్థిస్తున్నట్లుగా మడతపెట్టిన భంగిమలో ఉంటుంది, అయితే ఇవి ఇతర జీవులపై దాడి చేసేందుకు సన్నద్ధంగా తన కాళ్ళను ఉంచుకుంటుదనే సూచనగా గ్రామీణ శబ్దవ్యుత్పత్తిలో ఉపయోగిస్తారు. కొన్నిసార్లు గొల్లభామ మరియు [[మిడుత]]ల విషయంలో కొంచెం తకమక పడతారు. మిడుత ఎగురునప్పుడు తన కాళ్ళను అదిమి తన్నటం ద్వారా అత్యంత వేగంగా ఎగురుతుంది. మిడుతలా కాక గొల్లభామ నిదానంగా ఎగురుతుంది.
