దక్షిణ భారతదేశంలోని కేరళలో కొండచరియలు విరిగిపడ్డాయి
భారీ వర్షాల కారణంగా 2024 జూలై 30 తెల్లవారుజామున కేరళ లోని వాయనాడ్ జిల్లా, వైతిరి తాలూకా, మేప్పాడి పంచాయితీ లోని పుంజిరిమట్టం, ముండక్కై, చూరల్మాల, వెల్లారిమాల గ్రామాలలో వరుసగా అనేక సార్లు కొండచరియలు విరిగిపడ్డాయి.[1] భారీవర్షాల కారణంగా ఈ దుర్ఘటన జరిగింది. కనీసం 336 మంది మరణించిన ఈ దుర్ఘటన కేరళ చరిత్రలో అత్యంత ప్రాణాంతకమైన ప్రకృతి వైపరీత్యాలలో ఒకటి.[2][3][4] కనీసం 397 మందికి పైగా గాయాలు కాగా, మరో 78 మంది తప్పిపోయారు. సైనిక దళాలు, జాతీయ విపత్తు స్పందన దళం, అగ్నిమాపక దళం, అటవీ, వన్యప్రాణి విభాగాల సిబ్బంది, స్వచ్ఛంద కార్యకర్తలు జీవించి ఉన్న వారి కోసం పెద్దయెత్తున గాలింపు, రక్షణ చర్యలు చేపట్టారు.[5]

On 30.07.2024 at about 0217 hrs, due to incessant and heavy to extremely heavy rainfall,a major landslide incident occurred at Punjirimattom, Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Vellarimala Village,Meppadi Panchayat, Vythiri taluk in District Wayanad.

Notably, 437 body parts were recovered form the landslide-hit areas of which, DNA tests of 401 parts were completed last week. Of which, 349 body parts belonging to 248 persons, including 121 men and 127 women were identified.

Following the incident, the authorities launched a massive rescue operation in the area to look for possible survivors. A combined rescue mission of the Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire and Rescue Services, Forest and Wildlife authorities, and the police, along with hundreds of volunteers and government officials rescued several stranded people in the surrounding forest area and mud-filled locations. On August 1, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said over 9,300 people were staying in 91 relief camps in Wayanad district.
