1949లో ఈమె, ఈమె భర్త ఒక గుజరాతీ దినపత్రికలో నటీనటులు కావలెను అనే ప్రకటన చూసి దరఖాస్తు చేసుకున్నారు. ఈమె ఎంపిక అయి రనక్‌దేవి అనే గుజరాతీ సినిమాలో నటిగా తన సినీ ప్రస్థానాన్ని ఆరంభించింది. అదే సంవత్సరం హిందీలో తన మొదటి సినిమా ''అమర్ రాజ్‌''లో నటించింది. ఈమె One1940-60ల ofమధ్య herకాలంలో popularఎక్కువగా filmsపౌరాణిక wasపాత్రలను ''[[Do Bigha Zameen|Do Bigha Zamin]]'' (1953)ధరించింది.
