==విద్యాభ్యాసం==
ఆమె బాల్యంలో [[పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్]] రాష్ట్రం "అసాన్‌సోల్" లోని ఐరిష్ కాన్వెంట్,లొరెటో లో విద్యాభ్యాసం ప్రారంభించారు. బాల్యంలో విద్యలో చురుకుగా ఉండుటచేత అందరిచేత ప్రశంసలు పొందారు. ఆమె బాల్యంలో తన యింటి పరిసరాలలో గల పెద్ద పూల తోటలో గడిపేటపుడు కొన్ని కీటకాలు పూల చుట్టూ తిరిగుటను నిశితంగా గమనించేవారు. ఈ పరిశీలన ఆమెను విజ్ఞాన రంగంపై తపన మరియు ఆశక్తిని రేకెత్తించింది. ఆ లేత ప్రాయంలోనే ఆమె లోతైన మనస్సులో శాస్త్రవేత్త లక్షణాలు ఆవిర్భవించాయి. ఆమె పాఠశాలలో చదువుకొనే కాలములో ఆమె చదువు, ఆటలు, సంగీతం, నాట్యము మరియు వక్తృత్వం పట్ల ఆశక్తి కనబరచేవారు. ఆ రంగాల పట్ల అనేక బహుమతులు గెలుచుకున్నారు.కానీ ప్రకృతి ని అధ్యయనం చేయాలనే ఉత్సుకత మిగిలిపోయింది. తర్వాత ఇంటర్మీడియట్ కోర్సులో సైన్స్ విభాగంలో రాంచీ విశ్వవిద్యాలయంలోని నిర్మల కాలేజీ లో చేరారు. ఆ తర్వాత బనారస్ హిందూ విశ్వవిద్యాలయంలో బి.యస్సీ ని బోటనీ ప్రధానాంశంగా చేశారు.అచట బి.యస్సీ (ఆనర్స్) మొదటి శ్రేణిలో మొదటి స్థానాన్ని పొందారు. అదే విశ్వవిద్యాలయంలో C.A.S నుండి బోటనీలో మాస్టర్స్ డిగ్రీని పొందారు.మాస్టర్స్ డిగ్రీ లో కూడా మొదటి శ్రేణిలో మొదటి స్థానం సంపాదించి బంగారు పతకాన్ని పొందారు.పి.హెచ్.డి కొరకు బనారస్ హిందూ విశ్వవిద్యాలయం లో చేరారు. ఆమె సైనోబాక్టీరియా పై రాసిన ప్రత్యేక రచన ఆమెను సైనోబాక్టీరియాలజిస్టుగా చేసింది. ఆమె ప్రకృతిలో సాధారణంగా గల 43 ఆకుపచ్చని అందమైన సూక్ష్మజీవులపై పరిశోధనను ప్రొఫెసర్ హె.డి.కుమార్ తో కలసి పనిచేసి పి.హెచ్.డి పూర్తిచేశారు. ఆ తర్వాత భోపాల్ విశ్వవిద్యాలయం (ప్రస్తుతం భర్కతుల్లా) లో లెక్చరర్ గా 1989 లో చేరారు.
==ఉద్యోగాలు.గౌరవాలు, అవార్డులు==
1989 లో భర్కతుల్లా విశ్వవిద్యాలయం లో లెక్చరర్ గా ఉద్యోగ బాధ్యతలు మొదలు పెట్టారు. ఆమె 1997 లో రీడర్ గానూ, మరియు 2005 లో ప్రొఫెసర్ గానూ పనిచేశారు. ప్రస్తుతం ఆమె జీవ శాస్త్ర విభాగంలో అధిపతిగా యున్నారు. ఆమె అనేక అవార్డులను స్వంతం చేసుకున్నారు. వాటిలో 1990 లో ఎం.పి. యంగ్ సైంటిస్ట్ అవార్డును, ఆ తర్వాత 1995 లో జర్మనీ లో గౌరవ డాడ్ ఫెలోషిప్ పొందారు. ఆమె 1995 లో శైవలం ఫిజియాలజీ, సైనోబాక్టీరియా యొక్క ఆవరణశాస్త్రం మరియు బయోకెమిస్ట్రీ లలో చేసిన పరిశోధనలకు గానూ జె.ఎ.బి.యంగ్ సైంటిస్ట్ అవార్డును స్వంతం చేసుకున్నారు. 1998 లో యు.కె లో గౌరవనీయమైన స్టాఫ్ అకాడమిక్ కామన్వెల్త్ ఫెలోషిప్ ను బయోటెక్నాలజీ లో పొంది, దుర్హాం విశ్వవిద్యాలయంలో గౌరవ విజిటింగ్ ఫెలోగా గౌరవం పొందారు. అచట ఆమె జీవ శాస్త్రంలో క్రొత్త శాఖ అయిన ఆస్ట్రోబయాలజీ (బాహ్య అంతరిక్షంలో గల జీవుల పై అధ్యయనం మరియు అంటార్కిటిక్ లొ సారూప్యత) పై అధ్యయనం కొనసాగించారు. 2002 లో ఆమె

analogous in the Antarctic. In 2002 Dr Banerjee received the reputed UGC Career Award given to scientists in
recognition of the significant noteworthy contributions in their respective field to specialization and academic

In March 2003 Dr Banerjee received the coveted Scientist of the Year Award for her out standing
contributions in the field of Cyanobacterial Biotechnology by the International board of Awards of the National

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose National Award for Excellence in Environmental Biotechnology by J.K.

Distinguished Scientist of the Year by International Board of Award NESA 2005. Recently she has
received the coveted Albert Schweitzer Science Medal from the Albert Schweitzer International
Foundation UK, 2006 and the DBT Overseas Associateship to USA from Department of Biotechnology,
Ministry of Science Technology, and Govt. of India. –2006-07.
Dr Banerjee is a Fellow and Life member of many Scientific Bodies of National and International repute.
Widely traveled, Dr Banerjee has visited many foreign countries to deliver talks and attend conferences. Dr
Banerjee has been actively engaged in the various aspects of Algal Biotechnology and Cyanobacterial
Research and their applications. She has been the guest faculty to many Departments of Barkatullah University
and associated with the Teachers Training Center for training Higher Secondary Teachers, Government of M.P.
Dr Banerjee has supervised 10 Ph.D. and 24 M.Phil students .She has 55 publications in reputed peer reviewed
International and National journals. She has attended more than 65 National and International Conferences /
Congresses/ Symposia. She has successfully completed 4 research projects of National funding agencies.
Dr Banerjee’s current interest lies in extensive research for the propagation of rare varieties of medicinal plants
on algal biofertilizers and studies of the unique cyano bacteria from diverse habitats including the cold and hot
deserts where these organisms survive at the borderline of life. -->
