మార్చు- October 11, 2014 – The Shiraz Metro in Iran is officially opened. Construction began in 2001 with three lines planned for the system. The first 10.5-కిలోమీటరు long (6.5 మై.) section includes eight stations connecting Ehsan to Namazi; construction is continuing to extend this first line south to Gol-e-Sorkh Square to provide a connection to the local airport and adding 12 more stations along the route. (Railway Gazette)[1]
- March 23, 2014 – At 2:50 a.m. local time (07:50 UTC), a passenger train overruns the bumper at O'Hare subway station. The front car of the eight-car train partially ascended an escalator. It was later estimated that the train entered the station at 25 నుండి 26 miles per hour (40 నుండి 42 km/h), which was not an excessive speed. Thirty-two people were injured in the incident and were treated at area hospitals. The cause of the incident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Investigators are focusing on the theory that the motorwoman, 25-year-old Brittney Tysheka Haywood, fell asleep at the controls. - December 7, 2013 – The Utah Transit Authority begins operation of the S Line, the first operating streetcar in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area in 50 years. The line connects the Salt Lake neighborhood of Sugar House with the rest of UTA's rail network, and was built along an abandoned industrial feeder line originally built by the Denver and Rio Grande Western. - September 25, 2013 – A main feeder cable that provides electricity to an 8-మైలు (13 కి.మీ.) long segment of Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line fails, causing electric train service over the line to halt. Metro-North used diesel locomotives and buses to augment passenger services throughout the rest of the week noting that restoration of full regular service could take weeks. Consolidated Edison and Metro-North installed a temporary substation at Harrison on September 28 in an effort to help alleviate the outage for Monday's regular services. - September 25, 2013 – Upset commuters in Jakarta, Indonesia, stage two days of protests against KA Commuter Jabodetabek (KRL), the city's commuter railway company, following implementation of a ticket sales limiting practice. In 2011, Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation issued a decree to promote safety that would require railway companies to limit ticket sales to 150% of a train's capacity; KRL began implementation of this limit on Monday. Officials from the railway cited the prevalence of roof riders as part of the impetus for the limit. Demonstrators on Wednesday piled debris on the tracks at Tigaraksa station preventing any train movement into or out of the city via the station. - September 20, 2013 – A federal judge in Akron, Ohio, issues a temporary restraining order to halt a strike action against the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway that began earlier in the day. The strike was called by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, a unit of the Teamsters, in reaction to the railway company's efforts to reduce train crew sizes; the union's position is that these actions constituted a repudiation of recent bargaining agreements negotiated between the union and the railway. About 100 employees of the railway participated in the strike with picket lines formed at locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The judge's order requiring the employees to return to work also prevents the railway from staffing train crews with supervisors or managers instead of regularly employed engineers and conductors.
