జియార్డియా
జియార్డియా (లాటిన్ Giardia) ఒక రకమైన పరాన్న జీవుల ప్రజాతి. ఇవి సకశేరుకాల చిన్న ప్రేగులో నివసించి జియార్డియాసిస్ (Giardiasis) అనే వ్యాధిని కలుగజేస్తుంది. వీని పేరు ఫ్రెంచి జంతు శాస్త్రవేత్త ఆల్ఫ్రెడ్ జియార్డ్ (Alfred Mathieu Giard) జ్ఞాపకార్ధం ఇవ్వబడింది..

జియార్డియాసిస్ మార్చు
జియార్డియా అతిధేయి చిన్న ప్రేగులలో నివసిస్తుంది. ఇవి ఆహారం లేదా నీటి ద్వారా మన శరీరంలోకి ప్రవేశిస్తుంది. వ్యాధి లక్షణాలు 1-2 వారాలలో మొదలై విరేచనాలు, కడుపు నొప్పి కలిగిస్తుంది. వీని వలన బరువు తగ్గిపోతారు.
జాతులు మార్చు
జియార్డియాను వివిధ జంతువులలో సుమారు 40 జాతులను గుర్తించారు.[1] అయితే వీనిలో ఐదు నుండి ఆరింటిని మాత్రమే భౌతిక లక్షణాల ఆధారంగా గుర్తించే అవకాశం ఉంది.[2] Giardia lamblia (=G. intestinalis, =G. duodenalis) infect humans and other mammals, G. muris is found from other mammals, G. ardeae and G. psittaci from birds, G. agilis from amphibians and G. microti from voles.[3] మిగిలిన జాతులు క్రింద పేర్కొనబడ్డాయి:
