'''అగ్రహారము''' [ agrahāramu ] agra-hāramu. [[సంస్కృతం]] n. A street or village inhabited by brahmins. A village of which the old and hereditary cultivators are brahmins. A village granted to brahmins by government for charitable or religious purposes; either rent free, or at a favourable assessment. The conditions on which these villages are held are specified thus,

మధ్యయుగమునందు విద్యావైదుష్యములను వ్యాపింపజేసిన సంస్థలలో రాజాస్థానములకు బిమ్మట పేర్కొనవలసినవి అగ్రహారములు. పర్వకాలములందును, దిగ్విజయ పట్టబంధాది మహాసమయములందును రాజులనేకులు వేదవేదాంగపారగులను, పురాణేతిహాసాజ్ఞులను, కర్మనిరతులను అగు విప్రులకీ అగ్రహారములను దానమొసంగుచుండిరి. వీని ఆదాయముతో జీవయాత్రను చేయుచు ఈ బ్రాహ్మణులు నిశ్చింతులై స్వాధ్యాయప్రవచనములతో కాలక్షేపము జరిపెడివారు. ఈ అగ్రహారము లేక భోగములు, బహుభోగములని రెండువిధములు. అందు మొదటి తరగతి వొక్కని హక్కు భుక్తములోనే యుండునవి.రెండవతరగతి అగ్రహారములలో అనేకపండితకుటుంబీకులకు వృత్తులేర్పరుపబడియుండెడివి.
