దీని ఆంగ్లనామమైన 'ఊవ్యులా' అనునది లాటిన్ నామమైన 'ఊవా' అనగా 'ద్రాక్ష' నుండి ఉద్భవించింది. ఆంగ్లములో నేటికీ వాచిపోయిన కొండనాలుకను 'ఊవా' అంటారు.
