1990 మచిలీపట్నం తుఫాను 1977 ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ తుఫాను తరువాత దక్షిణ భారతదేశాన్ని అత్యంత తీవ్రంగా ప్రభావితం చేసిన దారుణమైన విపత్తు. ఈ తుపాను వ్యవస్థను 1990 మే 4 న మొట్టమొదట అల్పపీడనంగా గుర్తించారు. అప్పుడు ఇది బంగాళాఖాతంలో చెన్నైకి ఆగ్నేయంగా 600 కి,మీ. దూరంలో ఉంది. మరుసటి రోజు ఈ అల్పపీడనం తుఫానుగా మారి, వేగంగా తీవ్రతరం కావడం ప్రారంభమైంది. మే 8 నాటికి ఇది సూపర్ సైక్లోనిక్ తుఫానుగా మారింది. 300 కి.మీ. దూరంలో ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ తీరాన్ని దాటే సమయానికి కొద్దిగా ముందు తుఫాను కొద్దిగా బలహీనపడింది. అప్పటికి గంటకు 165 కి.మీ వేగంతో గాలులు వీచాయి. తీరన్ని తాకాక తుఫాను క్రమంగా బలహీనపడింది. ఈ తుఫాను తీవ్ర ప్రభావాన్ని చూపింది. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌లో 967 మందికి పైగా మరణించినట్లు సమాచారం. 1,00,000 కు పైగా జంతువులు కూడా చనిపోయాయి. పంటనష్టం 1,050 కోట్లు ఉంటుందని అంచనా వేసారు.

1990 మే 4 న, బంగాళాఖాతంలో చెన్నై నుండి ఆగ్నేయంగా దాదాపు 600 కి.మీ. దూరాన అల్పపీడనం ఏర్పడిందని భారత వాతావరణ శాఖ (IMD) నివేదించింది. [1] ఆ రోజున అధిక పీడనం ఉపఉష్ణమండల శిఖరం ప్రభావంతో ఈ వ్యవస్థ క్రమంగా బలపడి, పశ్చిమం వైపు కదిలింది. ఉమ్మడి టైఫూన్ హెచ్చరిక కేంద్రం (JTWC) దీన్ని తుపాను హెచ్చరిక విడుదల చేసింది [2] [3] JTWC ఆ రోజు తర్వాత దానిని ట్రాపికల్ సైక్లోన్ 02Bగా పేర్కొంది. [4] [3] ఈ దశలో JTWC తుఫాను స్వల్పంగా తీవ్రతరం అవుతుందని మాత్రమే అంచనా వేసింది. అది 72 గంటల్లో తీరాన్ని దాటుతుందని భావించింది. [3] మే 6న, ఉపఉష్ణమండల శిఖరంలో బలహీనత కారణంగా ఈ వ్యవస్థ వాయువ్య దిశగా మరింతగా కదలడం ప్రారంభించింది. ఇది తీవ్రరూపం దాల్చడంతోపాటు చాలా తీవ్రమైన సైక్లోనిక్ తుఫానుగా మారింది. [5] [6] వాయవ్యం వైపు తిరిగిన ఈ మలుపు ఊహించిన దాని కంటే ఎక్కువగా ఉత్తర దిశలో కదిలింది. దీని ఫలితంగా JTWC ఊహించిన దాని కంటే ఎక్కువ కాలం ఇది సముద్రం లోనే ఉండిపోయింది. [3]

తరువాతి రెండు రోజులలో, ఈ తుపాను వవస్థ బలపడి గంటకు 230 కి.మి.. వేగంతో గరిష్ట స్థాయికి చేరుకుంది. ఇది సఫిర్-సింప్సన్ హరికేన్ విండ్ స్కేల్‌పై కేటగిరీ 4 హరికేన్‌తో సమానం. [3] అదే సమయంలో IMD కూడా తుఫాను సూపర్ సైక్లోనిక్ తుఫానుగా గరిష్ట స్థాయికి చేరుకుందని, 3 నిమిషాల పాటు గాలి వేగం 230 కి.మీ/గంటగా ఉందని నివేదించింది. [7] ఈ సమయానికి ఈ వ్యవస్థ చెన్నై నుండి దాదాపు 150 కి.మీ. ఈశాన్యంలో ఉండి, ఉత్తరం వైపు నెమ్మదిగా కదులుతోంది. [7] ఆ రోజున విశ్వమోహిని అనే ఓడ తుపాను కన్ను గుండా ప్రయాణించింది. అప్పుడు అది అక్కడి పీడనం 912 hPa (26.93 inHg) ఉందని కొలిచింది. ఇది సరైనదైతే బంగాళాఖాతంలో ఇప్పటివరకు కొలిచిన అత్యల్ప కేంద్ర పీడనాలలో ఇది ఒకటి అని IMD నివేదించింది. IMD జారీ చేసిన సకాలంలో హెచ్చరికల ఫలితంగా, ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ ప్రభుత్వం ప్రజలను పెద్దయెత్తున తరలించింది. మత్స్యకారులందరినీ ఒడ్డుకు తిరిగి వచ్చేలా ఆదేశించింది. [11] [12] [13] [14] 1,50,000 మందికి పైగా ప్రజలను ఎత్తైన ప్రదేశాల్లో ఏర్పాటు చేసిన సహాయ శిబిరాలకు తరలించారు. [15] పూర్తి సన్నాహకాల కారణంగా, 1977 ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ తుఫాను కంటే చాలా తక్కువ మరణాలు సంభవించాయి. ఎదురుమొండి ద్వీపంలో ఉన్న 7,000 మంది ఖాళీ చేయడానికి నిరాకరించడంతో వాళ్ళు అక్కడ చిక్కుకుపోయారు. [16] ద్వీపం తుపాను దాడికి ఛిన్నభిన్నమైపోయింది. [3][17] అయితే, నివాసితులు అందరూ ప్రభుత్వం అందించిన ఆశ్రయం లోపల రక్షణ పొందారు. [18] తుఫాను ఆంధ్రపై గణనీయమైన ప్రభావాన్ని చూపింది. తుఫాను ఉప్పెన అలలు సాధారణం కంటే 4.9 మీటర్లు ఎక్కువ ఎత్తున ఎగసాయి. దీంతో 100కు పైగా గ్రామాలు నీటిలో మునిగిపోయాయి. [3] తుఫాను కారణంగా కనీసం 967 మంది మరణించారు; మట్టి, గడ్డితో నిర్మించిన గుడిసెలు కూలిపోవడంతో చాలా మరణాలు సంభవించాయి. కరెంటు తీగలు తెగిపోవడంతో కొందరు చనిపోయారు, మరికొంత మంది నదుల ప్రవాహానికి కొట్టుకుపోయారు. [19] [20] తుఫాను కారణంగా కనీసం 30 లక్షల మంది ప్రజలు నిరాశ్రయులయ్యారు. 1,00,000 కంటే ఎక్కువ పశువులు చనిపోయాయి. కనీసం 4,35,000 ఎకరాల మామిడి, అరటి తోటలతో పాటు వరి పొలాలు ధ్వంసమయ్యాయి. పంటలకు, ఆస్తికి మొత్తం 1,050 కోట్ల రూపాయల నష్టం వాటిల్లింది. [3] [20] 1977 తుఫాను తర్వాత దక్షిణ భారతదేశంలో సంభవించిన అత్యంత ఘోరమైన విపత్తుగా ఈ తుఫానును అభివర్ణించారు. [11] సముద్రపు నీటితో త్రాగునీటి బావుల నీరు కలుషితమైంది. చాలా మంది ప్రజలు కాలువల లోని కలుషిత నీటిని తాగడం, వంట చేయడం వలన కలరా, టైఫాయిడ్‌లు వ్యాపించాయి. [15] [21]

తమిళనాడు మార్చు

మొత్తంమీద ఈ తుఫాను తమిళనాడుకు స్వల్ప నష్టాన్ని కలిగించింది. చెంగల్పట్టు జిల్లా అత్యంత ప్రభావితమైన ప్రాంతం. ఎత్తైన అలలు తీరాన్ని తాకడంతో పాత కాశీవిశ్వనాథ దేవాలయం కూలిపోయింది. [22] అలల తాకిడికి పెద్ద సంఖ్యలో గుడిసెలు కొట్టుకుపోగా, రాష్ట్రంలో ఆరుగురు మరణించారు. [23]

అనంతర పరిణామాలు మార్చు

తుఫాను తాకిన రెండు రోజుల తర్వాత, మే 11న, భారత ప్రభుత్వం భారీ సహాయ, రెస్క్యూ ఆపరేషన్‌ను ప్రారంభించింది. భారత సైన్యం, నావికాదళ హెలికాప్టర్లు తుఫాను ప్రభావిత ప్రాంతాలను సర్వే చేశాయి. ఆహార ప్యాకెట్లను కూడా సరఫరా చేసాయి. [11] భారత ప్రభుత్వం అంతర్జాతీయ సహాయాన్ని అభ్యర్థించనప్పటికీ, రెడ్‌క్రాస్ బాధిత కుటుంబాలకు ఆహారం, నూనె, మందులు, నీటి ట్యాంకులను అందించింది; తక్షణ అవసరాల కోసం wcc/cicarws 2,62,000 డాలర్లు అందించింది. ఆహారం, దుప్పట్లు, పాత్రల కోసం వరల్డ్ విజన్‌ 1,60,000 డాలర్లు అందించింది.
