Usage

Use this rcat template on mainspace redirects only.

• This redirect category (rcat) template populates ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Redirects to subtopics.
• Add this rcat to a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:

#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]

This is in accord with instructions found at WP:REDCAT.

• Template {{This is a redirect}} may also be used to add this and up to seven appropriate rcats to a redirect.
• Use this template on any mainspace redirect to a subtopic of the redirect's title. This type of redirect may have possibilities of becoming a Wikipedia article. Use that rcat with R to subtopic when appropriate.

Printworthiness

• In main-article namespace, many redirects to subtopics are considered printworthy; however, there are many others that are unprintworthy, so there is no default sort for printworthiness. At some point in the future, Jimmy Wales wants to make more printed versions of Wikipedia encyclopedia articles. Some rcats automatically populate either ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Printworthy redirects or ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. Others, like this rcat, do not, and that means it is up to editors to choose which of those categories, Printworthy or Unprintworthy, is appropriate and should be populated. The rcats that are used separately to populate those categories are:

• {{R printworthy}} and
• {{R unprintworthy}}

• Template {{This is a redirect}} will accept these rcats just like any other.
