This redirect category (rcat) template sorts redirects into two categories:

  1. ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Redirects to template from non-template namespace – for cross-namespace redirects, and
  2. ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Unprintworthy redirects – only redirects from the main-article namespace (mainspace)
  • At some point in the future, Jimmy Wales wants to make more printed versions of Wikipedia encyclopedia articles. Mainspace redirects that target pages in the template namespace are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy.

This rcat is not for use on redirects that are in the template namespace. If placed on a redirect that is a template page, it will not populate the expected categories; it will instead be sorted to ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Pages with templates in the wrong namespace.

  • Apply this rcat to a redirect in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[Template:(target page name)]]

{{R to template namespace}}
This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
  • Template {{This is a redirect}} may also be used to add this and up to seven appropriate rcats to a redirect.
  • Use this rcat on all redirects to a page in the template namespace from a page outside of the template namespace. This rcat should never be used on a redirect in the template namespace that targets any other page.
